The Philippine government has recently introduced a new app — a one-stop online system for government services through a single mobile application. The e-Government Philippines app, dubbed “eGov PH”, is a convenient and easy-to-use platform that provides access to a wide range of government services and information — with just a few clicks!
In today’s world where there are different apps for absolutely everything, is it actually worth it to download yet another app? We at Bonito Tech tried the eGov PH app to see what it has to offer.
How to get the eGOV PH app
The app is available for free on both Google Play and App Store. Since it is a meant to be used as a mobile application, there is no web version of the service, and their site just provides information and features about the app.
On your Google Play Store or Apple App Store:
Step 1. 🔍 Search the app by typing eGov PH in the search bar. Don’t forget the PH — or you might end up downloading another app named eGov, which is a news magazine on e-governance.
Step 2. ⏬Download the app to your device. It may be best to use WiFi, as the app is around around 17MB for Android, and around 59MB for iOS.
Step 3. 📱Install and wait for it to finish.
How to register for eGOV PH
Once installed, you can start the registration process by following these steps.
Step 1. Provide your mobile number and agree to the Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy.
Step 2. Once done, you will receive an OTP (One-Time Password) on your phone. Enter the OTP.
Step 3. You will then be asked to create an MPIN (Mobile PIN). Be sure not to forget your 6 digit pin as you will use this every time you login to the app.
💡 Please note that your account must be verified before you can use most of the app’s features. You can scan your PhilSys QR for faster registration, or you can manually input your personal information.
The app will also ask to take a live selfie 🤳 which will be used as your ID picture for the app.
What if I don’t verify my account?
Unverified accounts have limited access to the app. You can only view the Tourism tab which shows featured tourist destinations, with directions on how to get to them. We also tried the search feature to look for other spots, but nothing turned up.
To access all the features of the app, it would be best to verify your account.
Services in the eGOV PH app
Here are the services that are currently available on eGov PH:
🏢 National Government Agencies (NGAs)
Under this tab, you will see a search bar and a list of several NGAs. The search bar can only check for the agencies listed, and not the particular services they provide.
This section of the app will direct you to the websites of particular services that you may need, like NBI Clearance or the SSS Member portal. This saves you the time and effort of searching Google, and saves you from having to download additional apps. In order to continue, you will also need to agree to share your basic contact information with the agency you are accessing.
Take note that some services may not be currently available, such as DFA’s e-Passport and eApostille.
🏠 Local Government Services (LGUs)
Similar to the above, clicking this will direct you to the website of the LGU where you reside. You can change the city by choosing the Select LGU button.
💼 Jobs
Clicking this will link you to eJobs, where you setup a digital version of your resume. Follow the 3 simple steps that the page will walk you through, so you can access more of its features.
eJobs lets you show off your skills and qualifications to employers. You can upload your certificates and diplomas, and add details about your education. This gives recruiters a complete picture of your achievements, which can help you stand out in today\’s competitive job market.
🧳 Travel
Another handy feature of the app is eTravel, which makes it more convenient for inbound and outbound travelers to generate an eTravel QR code.
🚀 Start-up
Start-up will link you to the Startup Innovations Portal, the central platform for all things related to the Philippine startup ecosystem. For full access to all it features, a separate registration is required.
🚑 Health
Accessing Health will open a map showing all the nearby government hospitals and medical centers in the area.
📱 SIM Card
The SIM Card feature allows you to visit the SIM registration websites of Globe, Smart, DITO, and GOMO. Those who haven\’t registered their SIMs yet can now easily find their relevant registration sites.
📢 Report
One of the best features of the app is that it allows users to report various incidents to the authorities, via the People’s Feedback Mechanism. From this page, you can report crime, red tape, scams, women and children abuses, overpricing, fires, and accidents. Just write your message, upload any evidence, and submit it.
💼 OFW and 🌾Agriculture
Both features are unavailable for now.
Is it safe to use the eGov PH app?
According to their FAQ, the app is designed with “strict security protocols” to ensure that data and personal information are kept secure. Users also have the option to enable Fingerprint or Face ID Authentication (depending on your phone’s settings and capabilities) on top of the MPin, for an added layer of security.
What should I do if I encounter technical problems while using the eGov PH app?
If you experience any technical problems while using the app, you can get in touch with the app\’s technical support staff by going to Account and choosing Contact Us.
Conclusion
The eGov PH app is a new way for Filipinos to access government services and information. While there are still some features under development, it has already proven to be useful for accessing government websites, reporting incidents and generating eTravel QR codes. If you are looking for a more streamlined and convenient way to interact with the Philippine government and its services, the eGov PH app is worth checking out.
